About Grand National Festival
The 2027 Grand National Festival takes place at Aintree from Thursday 8 to Saturday 10 April. The Grand National itself is scheduled for Saturday 10 April at 16:00 UK time. The meeting is broader than its famous staying handicap: there are major hurdle and chase contests across the three days, with races on both the conventional racecourse and the National course.
Festival highlights
- Opening Day is Thursday 8 April, with a published first-race time of 13:45 BST.
- Ladies Day is Friday 9 April, also starting at 13:45 BST.
- Grand National Day is Saturday 10 April: first race 12:45 BST and Grand National 16:00 BST.
A note on studying the races
For the National, consider stamina, jumping reliability, handicap weight and suitability for the race’s distinctive fences. Do not assume that a good Cheltenham run makes a horse certain to cope with Aintree. For the supporting programme, examine whether a horse has recovered from recent racing and whether the course and distance suit. Early entries, handicap weights and final declarations are separate stages.
