Scotland's richest and most prestigious Flat racing festival, featuring three days of competitive action and the famous Ayr Gold Cup sprint.
The Ayr Gold Cup is a six-furlong heritage handicap renowned for its huge field and fiercely competitive finish. Draw, pace, ground preference and recent sprint form all play a major part in finding the winner.
The Ayr Gold Cup dates back to 1804 and has developed into the centrepiece of Scottish Flat racing. The modern festival also features the Silver Cup and Bronze Cup, giving a broad group of leading handicappers the chance to compete across the meeting.
The festival begins with competitive handicaps and the first clues about the week's going and draw bias.
The Ayr Bronze Cup leads a strong supporting card and gives sprint punters an important guide to Saturday's main event.
The Ayr Gold Cup headlines the finale, supported by the Ayr Silver Cup and quality Pattern and handicap racing.
Ayr is a left-handed, relatively flat course with a separate straight six-furlong track. In large sprint fields the draw can matter, but its effect often changes with wind and ground conditions, so evidence from earlier races is particularly valuable.
